Optical Engineering Manager(electron optics| optical design| lens design) (#113179)

Business Unit:
This position is part of KLA-Tencor’s Wafer Inspection Group (WIG) that provides defect inspection systems for monitoring process equipment. This role is part of the Common Engineering group that works on engineering solutions for multiple products across the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • The OE manager is expected to build and maintain a world class optical engineering team through mentoring, cross training and recruiting.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to lead a team of talented individual contributors.
  • The OE manager will also make technical contributions including Defining and writing subsystem requirements and the architecture for very complex subsystems.  May allocated requirements from the system to subsystem level in some cases.  Signs off and approves designs for the subsystems and systems assigned. Leads and influences the design reviews at the subsystem and system level.
  • Maintains, or contributes significantly to the divisional design processes.  Drives engineers to use design review rigor and design for X techniques: such as design for performance, value, integration, outsource ability, manufacturability,  maintainability, diagnostics, serviceability, total cycle time, COGS, quality, reliability, regulatory, etc.  Develops and/or provides significant input to the top level system specifications, system error budget, interfaces and working parameters for the optimum hardware/software solution.  Able to analyze and interpret complex system data and develop solutions that optimize subsystem performance.  Able to plan and lead experiments and conduct trade-off studies required to make major architecture decisions on complex systems.  Reviews test plans for subsystems and leads the completion of the subsystem tests, including developing the specifications and data interpretation.    Able to lead the test and integration of complex subsystems

Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge in the following technical areas:
  • Background in electron optics including Optical System design; Lens Design; and Tolerance Analysis of Complex Optical Systems.
  • Knowledge of vacuum and High Voltage design best-known-methods
  • 3 or more years’ experience in team management
  • Solid project and vendor management experience is a must.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate (Academic) with at least 5 years of experience
OR
Master's Level Degree with at least 7 years of experience
OR
Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 10 years of experience
