The Wafer Inspection Division (WIN) of KLA-Tencor is the world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced optical inspection tools for inline monitoring of process defects in advanced semiconductor factories.
 
Responsibilities:
The selected Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Light Source Group of WIN focusing primarily on our Bright field products. These tools are used for defect detection and yield analysis by major semiconductor manufacturers. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing high brightness plasma light sources to support KLA-Tencor's roadmap in optical wafer inspection. The candidate will work within the Light Source Group and will be interacting with the technology and engineering teams to develop promising new concepts, methods and subsystems that will be used to meet these challenges.
 
The candidate will be responsible for the development of subassemblies, covering the complete design process from requirements specification to feasibility studies, analysis and FEA modeling, conceptual and detailed design using ProE, detail drawings, procurement of prototype parts, prototype testing, system integration, and handoff to manufacturing. A particular focus of this position will be analytical and experimental validation and optimization of challenging mechanisms and opto-mechanical designs relevant to the Light Source Designs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
1) Very strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, machine elements, materials, and fabrication methods.
2) Strong analytical problem solving skills in the structural, thermal and fluid domains, and involving both first order calculations as well as FEA methods.
3) Skilled at hands-on lab tests, automated data acquisition, and data analysis.
4) Experience with solid modelling: Prior ProEngineer experience preferable

Experience in several of these areas is desirable, but not required:

1) Experience with designing/working with lasers, plasma sources and illumination systems is preferred.
2) opto-mechanical systems, optics, optics alignment, design of semiconductor equipment or similar instruments,
3) Thermal Engineering & cooling solutions
4) CFD, Ansys, Comsol experience is highly preferred
4) Should be familiar with data acquisition systems/instrumentation and scientific and statistical analysis tools such as Matlab, LabView, JMP/Origin.
5) Precision mechanics, mechanisms, motion actuators, machine tools, motion controls, electronics desirable
6) Must have a strong background in engineering or the physical sciences and demonstrated analysis and problem solving skills.
7) Should have the ability to influence functional groups to drive system level decisions.
8) Have agility and the ability to thrive on a fast paced program and respond quickly to field and internal escalations.
9) Should be able to define objectives clearly, create and track schedules effectively, and drive the team to a solution.
10) Must be an effective communicator able to share technical information with functional groups and provide executive level reports to management and internal customers.
11) May be required to lead small cross functional teams.
12) PhD in mechanical engineering desired
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 5 years of experience

Master's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience

Doctorate (Academic)
