Job Title: Product development engineer
Location: Milpitas, CA
Duration: Fulltime

Business Unit:
The Wafer Inspection Division (WIN) is the world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced optical inspection tools for in-line monitoring of process defects in advanced semiconductor factories.

Responsible for engineering activities on next generation of existing product. These activities will include the development and release of new options, features or cost reduction improvements that provide more value to our customers (external or internal). Integral to this role is an understanding of the customer’s use-case and successfully working in conjunction with other groups to define the requirements. Must have the ability to follow through and release / support these product enhancements effectively. Trains service and manufacturing employees. May be required to travel to customer sites to efficiently and effectively resolve technical issues (Fly and Fix) during and after product release, as well as to support existing systems.

Other Responsibilities may include:
  • Logical and systematic conversion of customer/market requirements into total system solutions and/or improvement projects that consider technical, schedule and cost constraints.
  • Defines the requirements and architecture for whole systems, subsystems and improvement projects and makes sure the system is designed, developed, modelled, integrated and tested to meet the requirements. Defines the top level system specifications, allocates requirements to the subsystems, calculates the system error budget, defines and resolves interfaces and working parameters for the optimum hardware/software solution. Performs functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to develop solutions that optimize system performance. Able to lead technical evaluations of future generation products and effectively manage risk. 
  • Understands and uses Systems Engineering principles and is able to apply them to systems development and improvements.  Has broad knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines. Has strong leadership, effective communication and adroit problem solving skills. Has intellectual curiosity. Displays objective analysis with a healthy scepticism.
  • Is able to make system-wide connections, see the big picture and then develop solutions within constraints of cost, schedule, manufacturability and serviceability.

Preferred Qualification:
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Optics, Physics or related field.  Experience in the area of mechanical, electrical or systems design, overseeing subsystem project, troubleshooting of systems issues, creating and executing test plans is highly desirable.
  • Experience programming with Matlab and JPython to collect and analyse image and system data.  Engineering experience with microscopy, advanced lithography, sensor technology, semiconductor manufacturing is a plus.

Minimum Qualification:
BS degree plus 8 years
Master's degree plus 5 years
Ph.D. degree plus 3 years of relevant experience and accomplishments.
